Hiking the peaks of the Carpathians: Hoverla, Petros, Pip Ivan.

Introduction

The Carpathians are a mountain range that stretches across several countries in Central and Eastern Europe, including Ukraine. The Ukrainian Carpathians are famous for their enchanting landscapes, clean mountain air, and rich culture. Three of the most famous peaks in this region - Hoverla, Petros, and Pip Ivan - are popular hiking spots among tourists and mountaineers.

Hoverla

  • Height: 2061 meters.
  • Location: Chornohora range.
  • Features: The highest point in Ukraine.
  • Routes: There are several routes, the most popular leads from the village of Vorokhta or the village of Zarosliak.

Hoverla attracts thousands of tourists every year, especially during the summer months. From its summit, there is a captivating view of the Carpathians. Hiking Hoverla requires good physical preparation, but is not technically difficult, making it suitable for beginners.

Petros

  • Height: 2020 meters.
  • Location: Chornohora range, near Hoverla.
  • Features: Known for its rocky slopes and distinctive relief.
  • Routes: You can climb Petros starting from Hoverla or begin the ascent from the village of Lazeshchyna.

Petros is less popular among tourists than Hoverla, but it offers more challenging and less crowded routes. The ascent of Petros is considered more difficult due to steep slopes and a large amount of rocks.

Pip Ivan

  • Height: 2028 meters.
  • Location: Marmaros range.
  • Features: At the summit are the ruins of an observatory, known as the "White Elephant".
  • Routes: One of the routes starts in the village of Dzembronia, another from the village of Shybene.

Pip Ivan is known for its historical observatory, which was once one of the best in Europe. Although the observatory itself is in ruins, it adds a special historical context to the hike on Pip Ivan. The ascent is considered moderately difficult.
