Overview of the Carpathian Mountain Lakes
The Ukrainian Carpathians are a real treasure for nature lovers and active recreation enthusiasts. One of the gems of this region is its mountain lakes, each with its own unique history and legend. Let's take a closer look at some of them.
Synevyr Lake
Known as the 'Sea Eye of the Carpathians', Synevyr Lake is the largest mountain lake in Ukraine. It is located at an altitude of 989 meters above sea level and is part of the Synevyr National Nature Park. The lake was formed about 10,000 years ago as a result of a massive landslide. Its depth reaches nearly 22 meters, and the area is about 5 hectares.
- Flora and fauna: The lake is surrounded by dense forests, where one can encounter many species of plants and animals.
- Legends: According to popular belief, the lake was formed from the tears of a girl named Syn, who wept for her slain lover.
- Tourist infrastructure: The park has equipped areas for rest, wooden sculptures, and observation decks.
Nesamovyte Lake
Nesamovyte Lake is located at an altitude of 1750 meters above sea level and is famous for its pristine beauty. It is situated in the Chornohora mountain range and is part of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve. The lake has a glacial origin and is distinguished by steep shores and crystal clear water.
- Size: The length of the lake is 88 meters, and its width is 45 meters.
- Routes: There are several tourist trails leading to the lake, allowing to enjoy the views of the Carpathian Mountains.
- Ecosystem: The lake is home to many species of rare plants and animals that are listed in the Red Book.
Other Carpathian Mountain Lakes
In addition to Synevyr and Nesamovyte, there are many other enchanting lakes in the Carpathians. Here are a few of them:
- Brebeneskul — the deepest lake of the Ukrainian Carpathians, located at an altitude of 1801 meters.
- Marichika — a popular tourist lake located near Mount Pip Ivan.
